Former Student David Baines Returns to Carmel College for a Special Visit

Mayor of Liverpool City Region Visits Carmel College

We were delighted to welcome Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, to Carmel College for an inspiring visit with our students.

During his time at the college, Mayor Rotheram took part in a student-led Q&A session, where he answered thoughtful and wide-ranging questions about the region’s future. He spoke about key priorities and investing in skills and opportunities for young people.

Washington Trip

Our students and staff spent five days exploring all the sights and sounds of this lively capital city. Its iconic monuments, buildings, historic neighbourhoods and museums provided them with a wealth of information about American history and politics. After a busy few days, they finished off the trip with a delicious meal at Hard Rock Café. What an unforgettable experience!

Ten of our aspiring A Level Politics and Law students took part in an “Ask A Justice” session today with Supreme Court Judge, Lord Burrows.

This online Q&A session was an incredible opportunity for our students to ask Lord Burrows, who originally hails from Prescot, about the processes he undertook throughout his career to become a Supreme Court Judge.

Students Visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg as part of the EPAS Enrichment Programme

On Tuesday 12th December, three of Carmel’s lower sixth students had the opportunity to visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg as part of the EPAS enrichment programme.

EPAS is the European Parliament Ambassador Schools’ scheme, and all of our students are welcomed to get involved with activities like this and in organising events within college.

Former Politics student encourages young people to dream big!

Alumni student Eva Carroll graduated with a First-Class University of Cambridge degree, ranking in the top 10% of her subject! Eva now plans to complete a Masters in journalism at the University of Salford this September.

Eva came to Carmel from Notre Dame High School, leaving college in 2020 with an impressive set of A Level results in Politics, English Literature and History, progressing to read English Literature at King’s College, Cambridge. During her time at Carmel, Eva was president of the Student Council and was also elected as a member of the UK Youth Parliament.

Our History and Politics students visited London.

In the morning, our students were treated to a tour of Parliament which included visiting the chamber of the House of Lords and an opportunity to see a debate in the House of Commons. This was followed by a ‘question and answer’ session with our local MP, Marie Rimmer.

Ryan Wain from the Tony Blair Institute visited our Politics department to talk to our students.
Ryan talked about how his background working within the students’ union at university led him to develop an interest in a career in politics. He explained how there is a wide range of areas that people who want to work in politics could consider.

Dr Evan Lawrence from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) came to speak with our Politics students and members of the Enrichment Debating Society.

Dr Lawrence is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations, Expert in Terrorism and Security School of Humanities, Language & Global Studies at UCLAN so we was extremely grateful to welcome her to the college.

“Carmel provided me with a huge range of opportunities such as participating in European Youth Parliament and being part of the Student Council. These opportunities gave me the experience and confidence I needed to succeed at university and provided the foundations to building my career.

“I studied Politics at the University of Sheffield and had a great time. I was part of the Politics Society (Polsoc) where I was Editor of the Polsoc paper for a year. I currently work as a civil servant for the Building Safety Regulator; part of the Health and Safety Executive.
