Congratulations to Carmel student Ahmed Mahmud who has reached the last 15 of the British Informatics Olympiad (BIO).

The BIO is a prestigious computer programming competition for students under the age of 19 in full-time education. Ahmed is in his first year studying A Levels in Computer Science, Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

During the February half term, he sat the first stage of the competition; a 3-hour exam in which he had to solve problems with the aid of a computer. As one of the top 15 competitors, Ahmed will now be going to the BIO 2020 final. This will take place at Trinity College, Cambridge during the Easter break.

The best four competitors from the final will then be chosen to represent Britain at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), in which around 85 countries take part!

In the future, Ahmed wants a career in Software Engineering, Data Science or Artificial Intelligence so taking part in the BIO will be a great addition to his CV.

We wish Ahmed good luck for the final. Watch this space to find out how he gets on.
