Our Criminology students visited Edge Hill University to deepen their understanding of Criminal Justice, Cyber Crime, and Policing, taking part in a range of immersive and hands-on activities designed to reflect real-life professional practice.

The visit gave students a valuable insight into how their studies link directly to higher education and future careers within the criminal justice sector. Throughout the day, students engaged with university staff and specialists, gaining a clearer understanding of the academic pathways and practical skills required in fields such as policing, law, and cyber security.

One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to take part in the university’s interactive crime house, where students participated in “Hide like a Criminal, Act like a Cop” scenarios. This activity challenged students to think critically from both offender and investigator perspectives, developing their problem-solving skills and understanding of investigative strategies used by the police.

Students also stepped into the role of legal professionals during live mooting sessions, where they practised presenting arguments, responding to questioning, and applying legal knowledge in a courtroom-style setting. This experience provided a realistic insight into the skills needed for careers in law and advocacy.

In addition, students completed a series of activities focused on identifying and responding to cyber crime threats, exploring the growing impact of digital crime and the methods used to detect and prevent online offences. These sessions highlighted the importance of cyber awareness within modern policing and criminal justice.

The visit was an engaging and informative experience that brought classroom learning to life, supported students’ career aspirations, and helped them gain confidence in applying their knowledge in real-world contexts. It also offered an inspiring glimpse into university-level study and future opportunities within the criminal justice system.
