Our Lower Sixth Geography A Level students have recently completed three days of Fieldwork!

They’ve fine-tuned their data collection skills and planned their own investigation to collect data for their Independent Investigation (NEA). The first two days were spent on Morecambe seafront, in the town centre and the surrounding urban area. Students investigated a range of Geographical issues, themes and questions which included: changing beach profiles, patterns of coastal sediment deposition, beach micro-features. They also assessed the environmental impact of different sea defences and investigating the relative success of various urban regeneration projects.

On the final day, students worked with such enthusiasm in the sun, investigating the changes in plant communities, micro-climate conditions and sand dune structure at Sandscale Haws NNR, on the Duddon Estuary. All with the support of Field Studies Council Tutors from Castle Head FSC Centre, Grange-over-Sands and much needed sun block!

Our Head of Geography, Kieron Vesey, said, “It’s a privilege to work with such enthusiastic and motivated students. They have raised the bar again. Carmel Geographers, simply the best!” #TeamGeog
