As part of their Crime Scene to Courtroom unit, 30 of our Upper Sixth Criminology students recently visited Think Forensics in Huddersfield, gaining a fascinating insight into the real-world application of forensic science and criminal investigation.
The visit offered students a unique opportunity to step into the role of crime scene investigators and explore how theoretical knowledge from the classroom is applied in professional forensic settings. Guided by experienced practitioners, students were introduced to a wide range of investigative techniques used in modern policing and criminal justice.
Throughout the day, students learned how evidence is carefully located, preserved, and analysed, with hands-on demonstrations covering key areas such as fingerprint recovery, DNA sampling, footwear impression analysis, and the collection of trace evidence. These activities helped students understand the importance of accuracy, attention to detail, and procedural integrity in criminal investigations.
The experience brought their studies to life, reinforcing key course content while providing valuable insight into potential careers within forensic science, policing, and the wider criminal justice system.
It was an engaging and informative day that enhanced students’ understanding and confidence as they continue their Criminology studies.
