The college heat of the Catenians Public Speaking Competition took place last night, showcasing the impressive speaking abilities of Year 12 students.
The nine finalists had been selected from more than 100 students who first competed in class heats, making it a significant achievement to reach this stage of the competition.
Each student delivered a well-prepared and engaging speech to an audience of peers, staff and judges. The topics were varied and thought-provoking, and the standard of presentation was exceptionally high throughout. Students demonstrated confidence, clear structure and persuasive communication in their delivery.
The feedback from both the audience and the judges was extremely positive. Several commented that the quality of the speeches and the overall standard of presentation was among the best they had seen from Carmel students.
After careful deliberation, the judges announced the winners. First place was awarded to Layla Gallagher, with Beth O’Brien taking second place and Isla Stabbins finishing in third.
Well done to all the students who took part and contributed to such a successful and inspiring event. 👏
