On Wednesday 10th June, our Year 12 A-Level Classical Civilisation students took part in an enriching and academically inspiring educational visit to London.

The day began at the British Museum, where students had the opportunity to explore and analyse a wide range of Greek artworks and artefacts linked to their current studies in Greek Art and Greek Religion. Seeing these objects first-hand allowed students to deepen their understanding of the material covered in lessons and gain valuable insight into the cultural and historical context of the ancient Greek world.

In the afternoon, the group visited the Classics Department at University College London (UCL), where they were warmly welcomed by academic staff. Students attended a lecture delivered by Virgil specialist Dr Fiachra Mac Góráin, focusing on representations of the death of the young in the Aeneid. The session provided a fascinating introduction to university-level classical scholarship and encouraged students to think critically about key themes within Latin literature.

The visit offered an excellent opportunity for students to extend their subject knowledge beyond the classroom, experience world-leading academic institutions, and further develop their enthusiasm for the ancient world.
