This week, our Upper 6th UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Practice students had an inspiring creative journey through Manchester, visiting Manchester Museum and the Whitworth Gallery.
The trip offered students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in world-class art and explore how museums and galleries engage audiences with their collections. From the bold, emotive works of Tracey Emin to the thought-provoking installations of Damien Hirst, students were encouraged to observe, question, and reflect, drawing inspiration for their own creative practice.
This trip formed a vital part of the Awe & Wonder project, aimed at sparking new ideas and pushing students to experiment with materials, concepts, and techniques. By experiencing art in real-world settings, students gained fresh perspectives on curating, composition, and the ways in which artworks communicate meaning.
The trip also helped prepare students for their upcoming college exhibition in January, where they will showcase their own creations. Staff noted the excitement and energy among the group, with creativity clearly running high after a day of artistic exploration.
It was a fantastic reminder of the power of art to inspire, challenge, and ignite new ideas, and we can’t wait to see how our students translate this inspiration into their own work.
