In the lead-up to International Women’s Day on 8th March, the college was proud to welcome Holly Ellis, widely known as The Scouse Scientist, for an inspiring and thought-provoking talk with students.
Holly shared her personal journey into the world of science, speaking candidly about her background, education and the path that led her to a successful career within the National Health Service. Her insights shed light on the diverse and often overlooked career opportunities available in the scientific field, particularly those that play a crucial role in supporting patient care and improving lives every day.
Students were fascinated to learn how science careers extend far beyond the traditional roles often portrayed in the media. Holly highlighted the variety of pathways within STEM and emphasised how her work within the NHS directly benefits communities across the UK.
Beyond her professional role, Holly has built a growing social media platform dedicated to making science more accessible and relatable. Through her online presence, she actively challenges stereotypes, promotes representation, and encourages young people, especially young women, to see themselves in STEM careers.
Her message of resilience, representation and aspiration resonated strongly with students, many of whom left the session feeling motivated to consider new possibilities for their futures.
The college extends its sincere thanks to Holly for sharing her story and helping to inspire the next generation of scientists ahead of International Women’s Day.
