This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Jane Wignall, North West Delivery Director for Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS).

Jane delivered an engaging and informative session to students, offering a valuable look into the vital work carried out by HMCTS and the many career opportunities available within the organisation.

During her talk, Jane explained the role HMCTS plays in upholding justice across the UK, outlining how courts and tribunals operate and the wide range of professionals who help ensure the system runs smoothly. From administrative and operational roles to specialist positions within legal services, she highlighted the diverse pathways students can pursue.

A key focus of Jane’s visit was raising awareness of the apprenticeships, internships, and work experience placements HMCTS offers. These pathways provide accessible routes into public service careers, allowing young people to gain qualifications while developing practical skills in a real working environment. Students were particularly interested in hearing how these opportunities can lead to long-term, rewarding careers within the justice sector.

Jane also shared stories from her own career journey, giving students an authentic and personal perspective on leadership, public service, and the importance of ensuring fairness and accessibility within the justice system. Her insights helped demystify how criminal and civil proceedings work and encouraged students to consider the many roles, both visible and behind the scenes, that contribute to the delivery of justice.

The session sparked thoughtful discussion among students, many of whom were inspired to explore future possibilities within HMCTS and other areas of the public sector.

We extend a huge thank you to Jane Wignall for taking the time to speak with our students and for inspiring the next generation of professionals who may one day help shape the justice system.
