Teachers from Salamanca, Spain, visited Carmel last week.

Two teachers trained in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, visited Carmel thanks to The Spanish Ministry of Education who arranged the visit.

José delivered two workshops, one to our Lower Sixth and one to our Upper Sixth Spanish students.  The Upper Sixth workshop dealt with the complex issue of the Spanish Civil War and the Franco Dictatorship. It helped the students understand the Socio-Historical context of this period of history which they are studying for the literature and film study element of their course.

Our Lower Sixth students enjoyed a workshop about Spanish festivals and traditions. This helped the students improve their listening and note-taking skills particularly because both workshops were delivered completely in Spanish!

One student commented: ‘This workshop has really made the film and the war easier to understand!’

‘It was really enjoyable. It was great to see how much we are able to understand when listening to so much Spanish.’
