Congratulations to Carmel College’s Foundation Learning teacher, Michael Owen, for winning The Saints Foundation Education Rugby Coach of The Year Award!

We are really proud of Michael for receiving this award. It is very well deserved as he has put in so much effort in helping to establish the Saints Learning Disability Rugby Team. As a result, the team is now recognised within the Learning Disability Rugby Super League, which launches in May at the Dacia Magic Weekend at Anfield stadium on 25th & 26th May 2019.

This has only be made possible because of the investment made by Michael in setting up sessions for our Foundation Learning students. In addition to this, there have been training sessions in the evenings and even a Learning Disability Rugby Festival here at Carmel College.

The Learning Disability League was set up to:

promote the development of skills, confidence and positive experiences, and make a major statement about social inclusion*

We are so privileged to have a member of our staff working within our community, to provide equal opportunities for young sports enthusiasts. The Saints Foundation have also expressed their gratitude by saying “we would like to thank him for his fantastic commitment to our Learning Disability Rugby League side”. Congratulations once again Michael!
