Our Art & Design students enjoyed an unforgettable and inspiring workshop delivered by industry experts from London College of Communication, UAL!
Throughout the day, they took part in two immersive, industry-led workshops that sparked new ideas, stretched their imaginations, and encouraged them to think like creative professionals.
Advertising Workshop: Buxton Water… for Dogs?
The day began with a lively advertising challenge that pushed students to think outside the box. Their brief: create a full campaign for Buxton Water aimed at dogs. From initial brainstorming to developing taglines and visuals, students explored how humour, surprise and playful thinking can transform a simple concept into a memorable brand story. They learned how advertisers use creative strategies to connect with audiences, and how unconventional ideas can lead to standout campaigns. The workshop was fast-paced, collaborative, and filled with imaginative energy; exactly the kind of environment that fuels great advertising.
Character Design Workshop: Crafting Personalities for Animation and Games
Students also stepped into the world of animation and character development. Working from a professional-standard brief, they teamed up to design an original character, thinking carefully about personality traits, visual style, backstory and purpose. Through sketching, refining and presenting their ideas, learners discovered how character design merges creativity with problem-solving, and how storytelling is central to crafting figures that audiences connect with. This workshop gave them valuable insight into the processes used by illustrators, animators, and games designers in today’s creative sectors.
A Day Filled with Insight, Inspiration and Opportunity
Both workshops offered students a genuine taste of industry practice, introducing them to expectations, teamwork processes, and the fast-moving nature of creative work. They returned buzzing with fresh ideas, renewed confidence, and a deeper understanding of the pathways available in art, design and media.
We are incredibly proud of how they embraced each challenge, and grateful for the chance to see them thrive in such a stimulating environment.
Thank you to the London College of Communication, UAL, for hosting our learners and delivering such an enriching day of creativity and inspiration!
