Students and staff were honoured to welcome Shana Begum to the college this week for an inspiring and thought-provoking session focused on domestic abuse awareness, healthy relationships, and personal development.
Shana Begum is the founder of St Helens the Best Me CIC, a Community Interest Company dedicated to providing trauma-informed coaching, training, and support groups. The organisation works with both individuals and organisations to promote recovery from domestic abuse, encourage healthy relationships, and support personal growth within communities.
During her visit, Shana shared her powerful personal journey, offering students a deeply moving insight into the realities of domestic abuse and the many forms it can take. Her honest and open discussion helped students better understand the importance of recognising unhealthy behaviours, supporting those affected, and creating environments where people feel safe to speak up.
A key message of Shana’s talk was the importance of knowledge, communication, and education in raising awareness and preventing abuse. By equipping young people with the right understanding and tools, she emphasised that communities can play a vital role in building safer and healthier relationships.
Her work strongly reflects this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain.” Through her dedication to helping others heal, grow, and rebuild confidence, Shana continues to make a lasting impact on individuals and the wider community.
The college expressed its gratitude for Shana’s visit, recognising the value of giving students the opportunity to hear such an important and personal perspective. The session proved to be both meaningful and educational, leaving many students with a deeper awareness of domestic abuse and the importance of supporting one another.
Staff and students alike described the visit as a powerful and impactful experience that will remain with them long after the event.
