Our Geography and Chemistry students enjoyed an incredible trip to Iceland over the Easter break! Their week was jam packed with activities including visiting some amazing waterfalls and glaciers, taking a dip in the stunning Blue Lagoon, eating at the Handmade Burger Factory in Reykjavik and visiting the home of Iceland’s President! The group also visited the Eruption Centre to learn about the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano, hiked up Solheimajokull Glacier and witnessed the activity of the mud pools and steam vents at Gunnuhver. Towards the end of the trip, they visited Reykjanes GeoPark Centre and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. This is the only place in the world where the effects of two major tectonic plates drifting apart can easily be observed above sea level! Amazing!
