Well done to our Foundation Learning students who took part in the Liverpool County Football Ability Tournament at Greenbank Sports Academy.

We had two teams representing Carmel who between them won four matches and lost three, but this didn’t dampen their spirits. The captains, Dan S and Brandon G, did a great job running the teams. Also, Dan G scored a hat trick! Team 1 finished 3rd in the league and Team 2 finished 2nd, a brilliant achievement.

Not content with competing in one competition, the teams went on to play in another tournament. Team 1 made it through to the final of the League Two Championship and although they played well, they lost 3-0 to Greenbank Academy. As runners up though Team 1 were delighted with their silver medals.

Team 2 played in the League One final and were winning 2-1, then conceded a goal which made the match 2-2 leading to nail-biting penalties! Team Carmel scored three penalties courtesy of Brandon, Matthew and Daniel G and Greenbank Academy scored two. What a fantastic achievement for Team 2 who won the League One Cup and bagged gold medals.

Thanks again to captains Daniel S and Josh L. A Special mention goes to Daniel G who scored a hat trick in his first match whilst wearing his lucky socks; Adam D who scored his first goal in a match; and the Goal Keepers and Defenders who made some amazing saves! Both teams did themselves and the college proud!
