Our Foundation Learning department has been awarded an £8000 grant to help construct and establish a sensory garden here at Carmel.

The aim of the project is to create a large sensory garden, or ‘safe space’ for our students to use when they are feeling stressed, overwhelmed or just want a place to relax. Staff will also be welcome to use the garden too!

The sensory garden will be made up of several different areas. These will be created using not only sensory plants, but also reusing and upcycling traditional household waste, for example bottles, unwanted furniture, tin cans, tyres, anything that can be used to add a bit more personality to the garden. We will be holding multiple volunteer days and ‘trash not cash’ drives where you can get cupcakes in exchange for an amount of plastic bottles, glass bottles, etc – what’s not to love about that! The department will also be holding workshops on upcycling.

This project will involve a lot of hard work and dedication from our staff and students and it would be great if you could help support this fantastic cause.
