Carmel College students are celebrating outstanding exam results today, with the Class of 2026 securing places at their first-choice destinations, including Oxford and Cambridge, medical and veterinary schools, and prestigious degree apprenticeships with major employers.

The achievements come as the Class of 2026 records a 99.64% Level 3 pass rate, with 68.89% of grades awarded at A*-B / Dist*-Dist level and 91.11% at A*-C / Dist*-Merit level.

Among those celebrating are students heading to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, while others have secured places on highly competitive courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, Psychology, Criminology and Mathematics at leading universities across the UK.

Isla Ebbrell, from Rainhill High School, achieved an exceptional A*A*A*A and will study English Literature at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. Fellow Rainhill High School student Sam Poulter also achieved A*A*A*A and has secured a Mechanical Design Degree Apprenticeship with Sellafield Ltd, combining higher-level study with a career at one of the UK’s major engineering organisations.

There was further success for students progressing to the University of Oxford. Stephen Pennington, from De La Salle School, achieved A*A*A* and will study Engineering at Oxford, while Matthew Sharma, from Tower College, achieved an outstanding A*A*A*A* and will study Engineering at Oriel College, University of Oxford.

The results also opened the door to highly competitive professional courses, with James Appleton and Anais Wood both progressing to Medicine at the University of Liverpool, while Holly Brailsford will study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nottingham. Carmel students are also progressing into a wide range of other subjects and destinations. Miriam Golebiewska, from Kirkby High School, achieved A*A*A and will study Psychology at the University of Liverpool, while Lilia Onyett achieved A*A*A and will study Mathematics at Durham University.

“We are absolutely delighted with the results that our young people have achieved, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them. It has been a genuine pleasure to support all of our young people in achieving their goals and being a part of their journey to success, whether that involves university, degree apprenticeships or employment.

Our students have already made a fantastic contribution to the Carmel College community, and we are now excited to see the positive impact they will have in the wider world.” Janet Gater, Principal

The Results Day celebrations brought together students, families and staff at Carmel College as students discovered whether their hard work had secured the destinations they had been working towards. For some, that means continuing their academic journey at university, while others are beginning professional careers through degree apprenticeships.

Carmel College is proud to offer more than 40 A Level and vocational courses, enabling students to develop their talents, pursue their ambitions and progress to exciting careers in a diverse range of industries and professions.

We wish all members of the Class of 2026 every success as they begin the next chapter of their lives. Follow our social media channels to view more coverage from today. View our results day video
