In 2025, the Mathematical Competition for Girls (MCG) was introduced as an exciting new opportunity to inspire and challenge young female mathematicians across the UK.

At Carmel College, we were incredibly proud to see our students take part in this fantastic initiative, and their achievements are certainly worth celebrating. Their enthusiasm, determination and commitment to mathematics have been truly inspiring.

The MCG is about much more than competition. It is an opportunity to promote solidarity, confidence and unity, while encouraging more young women to recognise their potential in mathematics.

Many girls enjoy mathematics and excel in the subject, but may not necessarily see themselves as “competition mathematicians”. The MCG aims to challenge this perception and demonstrate that girls belong in mathematical competitions. With the right encouragement and confidence, they have every ability to tackle challenging problems, develop their skills and thrive.

At Carmel College, we are incredibly proud of all the students who participated. Their willingness to challenge themselves, embrace new opportunities and support one another reflects the values we strive to promote within our College community.

We hope their success will inspire even more of our students to see themselves as mathematicians, problem-solvers and competitors, and to have the confidence to step forward and give mathematical challenges a go.

Congratulations to all of our students who took part – we are so proud of your achievements!
