Congratulations to Lower Sixth student Tyler Kearney who is continuing to make his mark on the international kickboxing scene after securing a prestigious world title.
Tyler, who came to Carmel from Lord Derby Academy is studying BTEC Sport alongside A Level Photography at Carmel. He first began kickboxing at the age of seven, and what started as training for enjoyment, soon developed into a competitive pathway, inspired by elite fighters such as Connor Hughes and Michael “Venom” Page. Watching their success motivated Tyler to push himself and begin competing at a young age.
His commitment to the sport has recently been rewarded with the title of World Kickboxing Union (WKU) World Champion. For Tyler, the achievement represents more than just a trophy. “I worked hard for it, so it demonstrates determination, which makes it worth it,” he said.
Training remains a central focus of Tyler’s routine. Twice a week, he undertakes intensive sessions in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing, training for a combined three hours, alongside regular gym work to maintain peak physical condition.
Looking ahead, Tyler is set to compete in January for the opportunity to be selected for the 2026 World Championships in Abu Dhabi. He also has ambitious plans to fight internationally, with hopes of competing in America, Northern Ireland and across the world, before progressing into a professional MMA career.
We would like to wish Tyler the very best of luck in his upcoming competitions and continued success in his kickboxing career.
