Carmel College was delighted to welcome back former student Mia McCallister, who completed her studies with us in 2024. Since leaving the college, Mia has embarked on an exciting apprenticeship journey with the BBC, an opportunity she describes as both challenging and transformative.
Mia’s role has already seen her involved in a diverse range of projects across the organisation. From working behind the scenes in radio and film to contributing to television production at the BBC’s busy Salford base, she has quickly immersed herself in the fast-paced world of broadcasting. Staff and students were thrilled to hear how confidently she has stepped into the industry and how her passion and creativity have helped her make an impressive impact in such a short space of time.
During her visit, Mia spoke candidly about her experience transitioning from college life to a major national broadcaster, offering valuable advice to current students considering a similar pathway. She highlighted the wide range of apprenticeship options available at the BBC and emphasised how supportive the organisation has been in helping her develop new skills, gain hands-on experience, and build meaningful professional connections.
Her story proved incredibly inspiring for students interested in media, journalism, and creative industries, demonstrating the real possibilities that apprenticeships can open up.
For those feeling motivated to follow in Mia’s footsteps, the BBC has now opened applications for its next round of apprenticeships. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the BBC’s official website to explore the full list of programmes and submit their applications.
