Class of 2023 Alumni student, Isabella Sanderson, who left Carmel College last Summer, achieves recognition of her work in the University of York Law Journal.

Her article; ‘How does the introduction of the Illegal Migration Act Adversely Impact the Human Rights of Migrants in the UK’, highlights the controversies of the new Illegal Migration Act that received Royal Assent on 20th July 2023. It assesses the impact it has on the individuals who fall within the legal parameters of the legislation, and, by extension, their Human Rights. Isabella’s perspective on the subject is profound and challenges the integrity of the UK government in relation to the policies in place that ensure asylum seekers can access safe asylum.

Isabella left Carmel with 3 A*s and one A in her A Levels and now attends the University of York studying Law. During her time at Carmel, Isabella was an incredible ambassador for the college and a keen advocate, representing the college at numerous departmental enrichment activities as part of her studies.

We are incredibly proud to see Isabella who is thriving in her new chapter and we look forward to seeing more of her future work.
