Students from Carmel College’s BTEC Human Biology and Applied Science courses enjoyed an inspiring and informative visit to Edge Hill University, gaining valuable insight into university study and life beyond college.

The visit provided students with the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a university student while exploring the wide range of opportunities available in higher education.

A highlight of the day was a hands-on microbiology practical session in the university’s state-of-the-art laboratories. Working in a professional scientific environment allowed students to develop practical skills and experience the type of learning they could encounter at degree level.

In addition to the laboratory session, students toured the university campus and explored its impressive facilities. They also enjoyed lunch in The Hub, giving them a taste of everyday student life.

The visit included a dedicated workshop focused on personal statement writing, offering helpful guidance and advice for students considering university applications. Students also had the opportunity to hear from a current university student, who shared their experiences and provided a valuable insight into what a typical day at university involves.

The experience helped students build confidence, develop practical skills and gain a clearer understanding of the pathways available to them after completing their studies at Carmel College.

We would like to extend its sincere thanks to Edge Hill University for hosting such an engaging, informative and inspiring day. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore their future options and experience university life first-hand.
