Lower Sixth student Jess Adamson is looking to qualify for British Gymnastics Championship this weekend!

Jess will be competing in the WAG Challenge Cup qualifier this weekend where she is hoping to get a score of 46 to qualify for the British Championships in 2019. In 2017 Jess competed in the same competition gaining an overall score of 45.9, narrowly missing the chance to qualify for this year’s British Championships. Sadly, during the competition Jess sprained both of her ankles upon dismounting from her bar routine.

Her injury took several months to heal but she soon returned to the gym to retrain, build her muscles and improve her skills. After speaking to Jess, she said “it takes a lot of hard work, determination and confidence in yourself to compete. Getting through sessions can be challenging and tough. But the experience is definitely worth it”. Her dedication to the sport has earned Jess the title of North West Champion twice this year. When asked who her biggest inspiration is, Jess said “definitely my Coach; Hannah Whelan. She’s a double Olympian so she’s been through the same experience before and she always pushes you to be your best”.

From the age of three Jess began training at her local gymnastics club after watching her sister enjoy the sport, as well as British gymnasts competing in the Olympics. Aged 8, Jess began taking part in competitions to get her compulsory grades before going on to compete for the Warrington Gymnastics Club in both individual and team events. After college Jess attends the gym four days a week, this is testimony to her passion for the sport.

Carmel are supporting you Jess! We wish you the best of luck this weekend!
