Carmel’s Basketball Academy First Team have capped off an outstanding regular season with a 10–4 record, securing their place among the top eight U19 teams in the country in the prestigious AoC Sport College Basketball League.
In a remarkable achievement, the squad—composed largely of U17 players—demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the season. A late surge, highlighted by back-to-back victories over Sheffield College and Newcastle College, ensured their place in the national playoffs.
The team now travels to Milton Keynes as they look to continue their impressive run and secure a place in the playoff semi-finals.
This stage of the competition could also mark a poignant moment for several upper sixth players, including Thiong Ayei, Oliver Irvine, and Matthew Cooper. All three have already attracted significant interest, with scholarship opportunities and offers to play in the USA and Europe next season.
Speaking on the team’s success, the Head Coach praised both their athletic and academic commitment:
“It is with great pride that our young group have achieved so much this season. Their daily dedication to their sport and academics has been nothing short of amazing. This group has gelled really well on and off the court and genuinely want to see each other succeed. We hope to follow previous teams by reaching the last four, but most importantly ensure our graduating students are in the best possible position to secure professional contracts or university scholarships in the UK or USA.”
The entire Carmel community wishes the team the very best as they continue their playoff journey, proudly representing both the college and the wider community.
