Alumni student Drew Kent, is currently thriving in his third year at Central Saint Martins (CSM). Drew left Carmel College in 2020 and was recently recognised as a British Fashion Council Scholar and featured in Vogue.

Drew reflects on his artistic journey at Carmel where he studied on the UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Practice and then progressed onto the Art Foundation course:

“Leaving college, I knew I wanted to focus on the arts and the best way to achieve this was by studying the UAL Art Diploma at Carmel. I had already heard amazing things and success stories from the college so I knew I would be in an amazing creative environment.

At the beginning I struggled with my identity and I believe the diploma course really enabled me to visualise myself in the creative industry. It allowed me to be unapologetic in how I wanted to express myself and with the amazing resources I was able to push my work to a professional standard.

The thing I love most about the diploma is the freedom of being able to choose which area of art you want to focus on but also having the ability to try them all helped me decide exactly which path I wanted to go down.

The diploma was also the first time I was in a space with likeminded creative people and it was really inspiring to see the different ways in which people responded throughout projects. I believe the diploma built the foundations for where I am as a fashion designer today and having Vikki as an amazing tutor and mentor to push my ideas to the limit and gave me the confidence to venture onto my degree at Central Saint Martins.

I’m in my final year at CSM at the moment I have my work featured in several magazines including Hunger, Pap, Sicky and Glamcult. I have dressed drag race stars including Cheddar Gorgeous and Ginny Lemon, as well as celebs including Eliza Rose and Alok Menon. My work has also featured on catwalks shows at the firehouse including my latest sequence collection.”

We are so proud to see how much Drew has accomplished since leaving Carmel and we can’t wait to watch his career as a Fashion Design continue to flourish!
