This week during the BTEC Business Work Experience programme, one of our students, Alice Sephton has spent her time at the St Helens Labour Office with the employees of Conor McGinn MP for St Helens North.

During her time there Alice has completed a range of complex tasks that has gained her valuable insight into what her future career will entail. Alice carried out tasks such as engaging with the constituents of St Helens and replying to their issues and concerns, along with creating a parliamentary research piece on the miner’s pension scheme. Alice was able to secure a large variety of skills that she may have not gained previously.

Alice said, ‘After being provided with work experience that is linked to the career I would like to pursue, I feel like I have obtained greater enthusiasm towards politics and the opportunity has provided me with a new set of skills that I am able to transfer into any workplace. This will look brilliant on my CV and I believe this now will set me apart from others’.
