It’s always lovely when a former student comes back to visit. James Doyle called in to see our Foundation Learning department, to talk to them about his journey after Carmel.

“I came to Carmel College at the age of 17 and joined the Foundation Learning course. It was a great way of overcoming the difficulties brought on by my Asperger’s Syndrome, in terms of developing the life skills I needed.

As part of this course, I studied Functional Skills in English and Maths, as well as BTEC Creative Media and Business Studies. After successfully completing my time at Carmel, I started to work for a charity, where I was able to utilise the skills, which I had gained at college.

After working at the Charity for three years, I decided to return to education where I gained a BTEC Level 3 in Creative Media at the age of 24. Having received my new qualification, I was successful in gaining an apprenticeship as a Stage Technician at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool.

Throughout all I have done since leaving Carmel, I can safely say that none of it would have been possible without the help that was provided by the Foundation Learning department.”

We wish you the best of luck James.
