Carmel College has celebrated Black History Month this October, bringing together its diverse College community to recognise the achievements, experiences and contributions of Black individuals and communities.
The celebration provided an opportunity for students and staff to learn, reflect and be inspired, while highlighting the importance of representation, understanding and working together to promote the common good.
As part of the College’s celebrations, students were delighted to welcome four guest panellists for a special Black History Month panel discussion: Elaine Clarke OBE, Michelle Akwara, Ebony Ince and Miguel Doforo.
Each panellist shared their personal experiences, life journeys and insights, offering students valuable perspectives and inspiration for the future. Their contributions encouraged students to reflect on the importance of embracing opportunities, learning from others and recognising the positive impact individuals can have within their communities and beyond.
The discussion provided a valuable opportunity for students to hear a range of voices and experiences, helping to broaden their understanding and celebrate the diversity that enriches the Carmel community.
Carmel College extends its sincere thanks to Elaine Clarke OBE, Michelle Akwara, Ebony Ince and Miguel Doforo for giving their time and sharing their experiences so generously. Their contributions helped make the event both meaningful and memorable.
Special thanks also go to PAT Connor for hosting the panel and facilitating the discussion so brilliantly.
Events such as this reflect Carmel College’s commitment to its values, particularly the Common Good, by encouraging a community where everyone is valued, different experiences are celebrated and individuals are inspired to make a positive difference.
Through celebrating Black History Month, Carmel College continues to promote learning, understanding and respect, recognising the importance of amplifying Black voices and ensuring that every member of the community feels represented and included.
