Students studying A Level French have returned from an unforgettable week on the beautiful Côte d’Azur, where they combined language learning with cultural exploration and a host of memorable experiences.

The educational visit gave students the opportunity to immerse themselves in French life while visiting some of the Riviera’s most iconic destinations, including Nice, Monaco, Cannes and Antibes. Alongside immersive French language lessons, students explored historic streets, relaxed on Mediterranean beaches, enjoyed boat trips and experienced the vibrant atmosphere of southern France.

The itinerary was packed with highlights. Students wandered through picturesque old towns, visited Monaco’s famous Formula 1 hairpin bend, caught a glimpse of Prince Albert’s motorcade and watched local children preparing for a traditional French festival. They also joined French football fans in singing La Marseillaise while cheering on the national team during a World Cup match, providing a truly authentic cultural experience.

One of the most valuable aspects of the trip was the chance to use French in everyday situations. Whether ordering meals in cafés, shopping at the renowned Cours Saleya market or chatting with local residents, students developed their confidence and communication skills beyond the classroom.

Food was another memorable part of the experience, with students sampling a wide variety of regional specialities. From salade niçoise, socca and crêpes to artisan ice cream, fresh oysters and traditional French cuisine, there was something for everyone. While some adventurous students even tried frogs’ legs, most agreed that snails were one delicacy they were happy to leave behind!

The trip offered far more than language practice. It was a week of friendship, independence, personal growth and cultural discovery, giving students experiences that will stay with them long after their return.

The college is incredibly proud of the way the students represented themselves throughout the visit, embracing every opportunity with enthusiasm, maturity and curiosity. Their positive attitude and willingness to engage with the language and culture made the trip a resounding success.

For students considering A Level French next year, the visit offered a glimpse of the exciting opportunities the course provides, demonstrating how language learning can open doors to new cultures, friendships and unforgettable experiences.
