Carmel College was delighted to welcome representatives from Alder Hey and the Mollie Research Bus for a day of health awareness, education, and career inspiration.
Students had the opportunity to participate in Type 1 Diabetes screening as part of the ELSA Study, an important research initiative aimed at improving awareness and supporting the early detection of the condition. The visit provided valuable insight into the role of medical research in improving health outcomes and helping young people access timely care.
Alongside the screening programme, BTEC/AAQ Health & Social Care students met with members of the nursing team to learn more about careers within healthcare. Students enjoyed discussing the wide range of opportunities available in nursing and gained a greater understanding of the vital work healthcare professionals undertake to support children, young people, and their families.
The event offered an excellent opportunity for students to engage with healthcare professionals, explore potential career pathways, and learn about the importance of research and early intervention in modern medicine.
Carmel College would like to extend its sincere thanks to Silo and Nicola from the Alder Hey team for taking the time to visit and share their expertise with students. Special thanks also go to Keri for organising such a valuable and inspiring opportunity.
The visit was a fantastic example of how partnerships with healthcare organisations can enrich students’ learning and help them make informed decisions about their future careers.
