A pair of Arts Award students have been praised for leading a series of creative workshops at Open Eye Gallery, marking the success of a collaborative project celebrating art and nature.
The project, Tree Tales: Art in the Branches, saw students Cara and Sonia take centre stage as they delivered two public workshops in the professional gallery setting. The sessions gave participants the opportunity to explore creativity inspired by trees and the natural environment, while also allowing the students to develop key skills in communication, leadership and facilitation.
The workshops formed part of a wider collaboration with Open Eye Gallery and The Tree Council. Throughout the project, Cara and Sonia worked alongside industry professionals to shape their ideas before independently leading the sessions—demonstrating the growing impact of young artists in community-focused initiatives.
Staff involved in the programme described the experience as both “invaluable” and “inspiring,” highlighting the importance of giving students real-world opportunities to showcase their work in professional environments.
In recognition of the project’s focus on creativity and sustainability, The Tree Council also donated a tree to the college. The tree will serve as a lasting symbol of the initiative, representing the connection between art, education and the natural world.
Organisers extended their thanks to everyone who attended and supported the workshops, while praising Cara and Sonia for their confidence, creativity and dedication.
