Report from Coach Clive Griffiths
The College extended its remarkable unbeaten run with an emphatic 26–0 victory over West Cumbria College in what can only be described as atrocious weather and testing ground conditions.
Despite the driving rain and heavy underfoot surface, the lads delivered a superb performance, combining physicality, discipline and no shortage of flair to secure their fifth consecutive win of the campaign. The result keeps the College firmly at the top of the North West League.
Leading the charge was Owen Walkden, who crossed the line twice in a commanding display. Further tries came from Theo Cotter, George Rankin and Keiron Manweiller, each capitalising on sustained pressure and sharp attacking play. Leon Walker added two conversions, with James Sheffield slotting another to complete a comprehensive 26-point tally.
Beyond the scoreboard, the match carried an added edge, with the team not only outperforming their opponents on the pitch but also winning what Coach Clive Griffiths MBE described as the “psychological warfare” that often accompanies big league fixtures.
“I am very pleased to report that the lads played a superb game in atrocious weather and ground conditions,” said Griffiths. “To keep a clean sheet in those conditions speaks volumes about their character, commitment and defensive organisation.”
Equally pleasing for the coaching staff was the conduct of the players off the field. “The lads were brilliant and a credit to the College,” Griffiths added, highlighting the squad’s professionalism and sportsmanship throughout the day.
With five wins from five matches, momentum is firmly on the College’s side as they continue their push for league honours.
