This weekend, the dedicated team behind Alfie’s Squad will embark on an extraordinary 650-mile challenge inspired by the hit series Race Across the World.

The ambitious journey aims to raise both vital funds and much-needed awareness for young people bereaved by suicide, a cause at the very heart of the charity’s mission.

Alfie’s Squad was founded by Carmel College student Alfie Fitzsimmons, who tragically lost his dad to suicide. Struggling to find the kind of support he needed in the aftermath, Alfie made the courageous decision to create it himself. His vision grew into a compassionate and empowering community where young people who have experienced similar loss can come together, talk openly, and begin to heal in a safe and understanding environment.

The upcoming challenge will see the Alfie’s Squad team travel from Anfield, setting off on Friday, and make their way, by any means possible, to Stamford Bridge, where they aim to cross the finish line on Sunday. From trains and buses to bikes, lifts, or sheer determination on foot, the group is prepared to tackle every mile creatively and relentlessly, all in support of a cause that continues to change lives.

In recent years, Alfie’s Squad has grown not only in its reach but in its impact, providing vital peer support sessions, community events, and accessible resources for young people navigating the complexities of grief after suicide. This weekend’s challenge is both a testament to the charity’s mission and a reflection of the passion behind it.

Everyone at Carmel College extends their warmest wishes and unwavering support to Alfie and the entire team. Their dedication, courage, and commitment to making a difference is an inspiration to our whole community.

Good luck from all at Carmel!
