Our A Level Computer Science students recently enjoyed an inspiring and action-packed day at Liverpool Hope University.

Students they had the opportunity to see how their classroom learning connects to real-world applications in science, technology, and beyond. The visit began with a captivating lecture on Mandelbrot Fractal Sets, a complex area of mathematics that plays a surprising role in areas such as finance, computer graphics, and computational problem-solving. Students were fascinated to see how theoretical concepts they’ve encountered in class are used to tackle real challenges in industry and research.

Following the lecture, students were treated to a guided tour of the university campus, led by Carmel alumna Caitlin Nugent, who graduated from Carmel in 2021. Caitlin shared her own experiences of transitioning from college to university, giving our students an encouraging glimpse of what lies ahead and demonstrating just how achievable their aspirations can be.

In the afternoon, the university’s outreach team delivered an engaging and practical UCAS Personal Statement Workshop, offering valuable insights and expert advice on crafting strong, standout university applications. Students came away feeling motivated and better prepared for the next steps in their academic journey.

A huge thank you to Liverpool Hope University for hosting such a stimulating and supportive experience for our students. It was a fantastic opportunity to deepen their understanding of Computer Science, explore future pathways, and see STEM in action!
