Tracking Progress and Moving into Year 13

  • We want every student to succeed in their studies and progress confidently into higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
  • Student progress is tracked throughout their two years at Carmel using Common Assessment Points (CAPs).
  • CAP 3 (April in Year 12) plays an important role in deciding progression to Year 13, alongside attendance, work submission, and attitude to studies.
  • If a student achieves an E/U grade in one subject at CAP 3, they will meet with a Pastoral Director to discuss their options.
  • If a student achieves an E/U grade in two or more subjects, a full progression review will take place, which may include considering alternative course choices if available.

Parent/Carer Code of Conduct – Key Points

  • Support your child’s learning by working in partnership with the college.
  • Respect the college ethos and values at all times.
  • Treat all staff, students, and visitors with respect.
  • Allow up to three working days for general communications to be answered.
  • Seek peaceful and reasonable solutions to any concerns.
  • Clarify your child’s version of events with the college before taking further action.
  • Correct your child’s behaviour, particularly in public, to avoid conflict or unsafe situations.
  • By following these guidelines, we can maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all.
