On Friday, April 25th, twenty-five students from Carmel College had the exceptional opportunity to participate in the prestigious Supreme Court Debate Days programme, held at the Supreme Court in London.
The students engaged in an immersive educational experience focused on the complex legal issue of joint enterprise. Throughout the day, they worked closely with Supreme Court staff members and judicial assistants, gaining valuable insights into the workings of the highest court in the United Kingdom.
A highlight of the visit was a courtroom simulation, during which the students took on the roles of judges, prosecution, and defence counsel. In this realistic setting, they developed and presented legal arguments, applying critical thinking, public speaking, and analytical skills in a challenging and supportive environment.
Liam Fox, a member of the Supreme Court’s Communications Team, praised the students for “their participation and enthusiasm throughout the day. We were impressed at the calibre of their arguments and their ability to speak confidently in public.”
This memorable experience not only deepened the students’ understanding of the law and legal procedures but also helped them develop essential skills that will serve them well in their future studies and careers. Carmel College is proud of the professionalism, maturity, and intellectual curiosity shown by all the students involved.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Supreme Court for hosting such an enriching event
