Twenty four of dedicated Carmel College students are making waves in the healthcare and life sciences sector thanks to an exciting new partnership with the LCR Ignite Programme.
Launched in February 2025 and funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, the LCR Ignite Programme is a fully funded initiative aimed at preparing 16–18-year-olds for successful careers in healthcare and life sciences. Led by Inovus Medical, this hands-on skills programme is part of the region’s Life Science Investment Zone, connecting young people with innovative companies working on real-world health challenges through cutting-edge technology.
Our Carmel students have shown exceptional commitment, with 100% attendance across the first ten structured sessions. These sessions are aligned with the SkillsBuilder framework, helping students to grow in key areas such as teamwork, problem-solving and communication.
Students have been placed into four specialist teams based on their interests:
-
Medical Technology Operations
-
Brand & Business
-
Software Engineering & Development
-
Medical Technology Innovation
Each team is guided by expert mentors from Inovus Medical. Over the course of five practical sessions, students have worked on real industry projects, gaining valuable hands-on experience and insights into future career paths.
One standout moment was the week five networking session, where students practiced their professional communication skills and connected with a range of healthcare and tech professionals. It was an inspiring experience that gave them a clearer picture of the diverse opportunities available in the sector.
Through LCR Ignite, students are not only building valuable skills but also gaining the confidence and connections they need to succeed in the life sciences field. The final session for this group will take place on Wednesday 14th May from 1:30pm–3:30pm, and visitors are welcome to attend. We can’t wait to catch up with our students to hear all about the invaluable skills they’ve gained.
