Last month we asked students to submit entries for our Black History Month competition.  They had to submit either;

– a poem about the contributions of Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities or individuals

– a short story or children’s book about the lived experiences of BAME people/communities

– or a series of posters promoting racial equality

Carmel’s Equality and Diversity Committee had the responsibility of voting for their favourite. We had some excellent entries so voting was very close, but eventually we had our winners:

1st place: Sajidah Rahman – A children’s book called ‘Black and Lovely’ Click to view Sajidah’s competition entry

2nd place: Sehar Waseem – A Poem on Black Lives Matter with artwork. Click to view Sehar’s competition entry

3rd place: Jess Croft – A series of Black History Month posters. You can see Jess’ posters in the gallery.

Sajidah received her voucher from our Vice Principal, Karl Smith. Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry. Well done, they were fantastic!
