Modern Facilities for a Modern World
The University continually upgrades older buildings and creates new facilities so the working environment for students improves all the time. We are committed to widening participation in higher education and to addressing the social inclusion agenda set by the government.
Library Facilities
There are two main libraries (the Sydney Jones Library and the Harold Cohen Library) 11 departmental libraries, over 1.6 million books, a large portfolio of around 5,700 electronic journals and online access to all the major databases. There are extensive special collections such as the largest Science Fiction collection in Europe, plus rare books and manuscripts. In addition students are able to access the City Library, the libraries of Liverpool Hope University College and Liverpool John Moores University.
History
Liverpool is one of the major civic universities of the UK, tracing its history back to its foundation as University College, Liverpool in 1881. The Victoria Building is probably the University’s most well-known landmark, with its distinctive clock tower and red brick.
Sports Facilities
At the University of Liverpool, you’ll have opportunities to try a whole range of different sports and activities, and also further develop any existing skills. There is a sports centre equipped with a pool, squash courts, weights room, cricket nets and a climbing wall. Whilst the 3 sports grounds contain 2 floodlit artificial turf pitches, 4 rugby pitches, 14 football pitches, 4 tennis courts and 3 cricket squares.
