Degree Courses

The Foundation Degree Programme at Carmel College includes a range of courses that offer direct progression on to a number of degree courses at the University of Liverpool.

HEALTH AND VETERINARY SCIENCE PROGRAMMES

Here at Carmel College we offer an innovative Foundation programme with direct progression onto Year 1 Health and Veterinary Science Programmes at the University of Liverpool.

Medicine and Dentistry Programme (Course Code: AZ00 - Direct Application)

This course is designed for individuals who may already be working in a related career, have relevant work experience or have a degree in a subject which is not science based. This programme is not designed for individuals who have recently studied Biology and Chemistry at A Level. There is guaranteed progression onto a Medicine or Dentistry degree at the University of Liverpool, for those who meet the progression criteria.

Allied Health Professions Programme (Course Code: BZ00 - Direct Application)

This course is designed for individuals keen to pursue a career as an Allied Health Professional. Individuals should have observational experience in a paid or voluntary capacity, or experience of working with the general public, children, the elderly or people with additional needs. This programme is not designed for individuals who have recently studied A-levels. There is guaranteed progression onto an Allied Health degree at the University of Liverpool, for those who meet the progression criteria in one of the following areas: Diagnostic Radiography, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Orthoptics, Physiotherapy, Radiotherapy.

Veterinary Science Programme (Course Code: DZ00 - Direct Application) 

This course is designed for individuals keen to pursue a career in Veterinary Science. Individuals must undertake work experience (either paid or voluntary) in a veterinary practice and an animal institution e.g. farm or kennel. This programme is not designed for individuals who have recently studied A-levels. There is guaranteed progression onto Year 1 Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool, for those who meet the progression criteria.

These programmes build on the highly successful Foundation to Science and Engineering degrees delivered effectively at Carmel College since 1996. In addition to the inspirational teaching and support offered, students will be members of the University of Liverpool and entitled to guaranteed accommodation and the use of all student facilities at the University. Students may also be entitled to student loans and bursaries
Applicants are required to research their preferred profession thoroughly and must show evidence of a good understanding of the scope of practice of that profession, preferably indicated by observational experience. Experience in a paid or voluntary capacity or working with the general public, children, the elderly or people with special needs will also help to strengthen an application. An enhanced police check is carried out in Year 1 and any convictions may affect further studies.

SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING PROGRAMMES

Biological Sciences (UCAS Code: C108)

This course provides students with an opportunity to enter degree programmes in the School of Biological Sciences. Students follow modules in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Applications of Biology.

Chemical Sciences (UCAS Code: F108)

Students can graduate in Physics, Astrophysics or any of the other thirteen courses from the Physics group. During the first year you will study Physics, Mathematics and one other module chosen from Chemistry, Biology, Information Technology or Geography, depending on your choice of final Degree.

Computer Information Systems (UCAS Code: G521)
This is a four-year version of the Computer Information systems (G500) course. In the foundation year students study modules in Information Technology, Mathematics and an option chosen from Physics, Geography, Biology or Chemistry. There is also an Information Technology project to complete, which includes aspects of presentation skills.

Computer Science (UCAS Code: G408)
The course provides a four-year route to a BSc. (Hons.) degree in Computer Science. Students can also enter some combined honours programmes via this route. Students study a module in Mathematics and have a choice of two other modules chosen from Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Geography.

Earth Sciences (UCAS Code: F608)
Students follow three modules chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology or Geography. Module choice depends on the course students wish to follow after the foundation year. There are 16 programmes available in Earth Sciences.

Engineering (UCAS Code: H109)

Students can enter the Faculty of Engineering to study any M.Eng or B.Eng programme. These courses satisfy the academic requirements to become a Chartered Engineer.

Geography (UCAS Code: F808)
This course offers students the opportunity to follow a pathway to BSc Geography or to BSc Physical Geography/Geology. Students study modules in Geography, and two modules chosen from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Information Technology.

Mathematical Sciences (UCAS Code: G108)

This course G108 provides a route to the eighteen degree programmes all BSc (Hons) within the Mathematics Group. Students follow a module in Mathematics and two further modules chosen from Chemistry, Information Technology, Physics, Biology or Geography.
